How’s that for a sensationalist headline?
OK, Apple for all their attention to detail and all their attention to asthetics continues to miss on one major point:
None of their web pages auto detect iPhones and format them in an iPhone friendly fashion.
That seems unconscionable.
I agree that’s surprising, but it’s not as bad as Lovefilm, say, who offer you a crippled mobile format that doesn’t allow you to rent DVDs, the purpose of the website. Similarly, the Amazon mobile site (which has improved) used to be severely limited utility.
Fortunately, that doesn’t matter to the iPhone, since it’s quite capable of viewing the full site. And that’s why I might give Apple a pass (not a merit or distinction, mind) because the iPhone makes specially formatted pages unnecessary. The icing on the cake, perhaps, but far from essential, IMO.
