  • New iPhone…

I got the new iPhone 3GS yesterday evening. Wow! It is blisteringly fast compared to my original one

Can’t say I’ve ever “loved” a piece of technology more than my original iPhone and this is a worthy upgrade -for the speed alone.

Now I get to experiment with the quality of AT&T’s 3G service and the conflicting reports about iPhone 3GS battery life.

  • iPhone development

After a couple hours dinking around I’ve got my iPhone provisioned and am able to compile programs onto my phone.

Combine that with the book I’d previously recommended and the new Stanford iPhone development classes available through iTunes University and things are finally moving along.

Sure, they’re pretty lame programs as of yet but it feels really good to be making visible progress.

    Onward and upward!

  • New WordPress for iPhone

The free iPhone WordPress application in the app store is an indispensible tool in the war on blog posting.

(No?not a war against posting – the war to getting around to posting. Anytime, anywhere. )

There’s a new version out that adds the ability to moderate comments and edit pages. Now, if they could just make entering HTML formatting a little easier…

Still, if you have an iPhone and a WordPress blog, this is a fun tool.

  • Free AT&T WiFi for iPhone

It would seem everyone in the US with a legit iPhone and contract received a message from AT&T this week telling us we’ve got free WiFi at of if their hotspots around the country.

Friday I decided to try it. At lunch we went to Borders Book (Barnes & Noble in disguise) with has an AT&T hotspot.

I immediately tried to connect. It detected my phone as an iPhone and asked for my number. After which I repeatedly got a failure notice. After several tries, I gave up.

10 minutes later, I tried again. This time it worked and I was told I’d receive an SMS message with a link to activate.

After several minutes the message arrived. Too late, of course, as we’d already left the book store.

I tried again today at a Barnes & Noble on the other side of town. Again, I got the repeated failure. Later, as I was leaving, it worked. This time I stuck around long enough to test it.

It does, indeed, work but the initial failure is very problematic and inconvenient.

I wonder if they knew I was planning to use the wifi to look up books on amazon.com to see if I could get a better price?
